IOD Europe with plenty of Informix stuff

News have come and go, but I must admit I have not spoken
much about IOD Europe, which will be held in The Hague from June 3rd
to June 6th 2008.

Gee! I am in San Francisco. First, I love the city, not my
first time here, but it's a real city, where you can walk, find French food
(there is even a place where you can get Meteor, it's a beer from Hochfelden (http://www.quoideneufenalsace.com/index.php?searchword=Hochfelden option=com_search Itemid=5))...
But San Francisco is more than that. It's America. It's the American dream with its ups and downs...

Enterprise Mashup

I work for GreenIvory (http://www.greenivory.com). They are specialized in Enterprise Mashup. Their product is called RedLion. You can do great things with Mashup and RedLion. I will have to come back to it to describe what they are doing, it really is exciting.

Feeling kind of proud tonight...

I feel kind of proud tonight. Yep. Some people are sad the day before their birthday, but it's not my case. I'll be 36 tomorrow and looking behind is not really in my temper. The reason that makes me proud tonight is that, thanks to hard work and the RedLion (http://www.greenivory.com/redlion) solution, GreenIvory (http://www.greenivory.com) is an IBM Advanced Partner. It's not even on GreenIvory's web site (what is their webmaster doing? Noone düne Piipe Nochamol!). RedLion is a great (would I say otherwise?) tool for searching information on the Internet and bringing it into nicely designed web pages or e-mail. RedLion is an excellent companion to your CMS package and it is not a replacement for any of them (otherwise, i would probably not use Joomla!).Anyway, my 37th year good start a lot worser...

IDS and XML

(http://www.db2mag.com/informixappdev/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201201285) It’s been a while I did not blog, although this is not a blog ;-).Well, I just wanted to let you know that the new IDS (v11 or Cheetah) has some nice XML features and I wrote an article about them on DB2mag.com, with plenty of examples. XML is cool, IDS is cool, Java is cool. You’ll see why there (http://www.db2mag.com/informixappdev/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201201285).Ok – back to work, I have a huge list of todos for InformixMag.com (http://www.informixmag.com), GreenIvory (http://www.greenivory.com), RedLion (http://www.greenivory.com/redlion), IIUG (http://www.iiug.org), and many, many more!

Installing the Informix JDBC driver on Windows Vista

Windows Vista is indeed quite cool. However, when it comes to installing software, you might come into some problems as Vista is relying on a new security mechanism which requires to be Administrator when you add anything to Program Files (well, this is the short version).

What a day… I am glad I don’t have days like that everyday. It started yesterday. A friend of mine wanted me to help him on a tender, finalizing his approach and his strategy on a migration from a legacy technology to Java.

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine showed me the original Informix Cheetah video. I got back to him and he gave me right to put it on YouTube. Later I put my election video (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=65 Itemid=26) on YouTube and now I released a more ambitious project.

Towards a Standardization of Database Metadata in XML

Having knowledge of how you database is
structured is not easy. It is often available through complex tools accessible
to DBA (Database Administrator), not even developers. Management may not have
access to those tools. This structure is data about the data, it is called metadata.

This article introduces the needs for a XML dialect to
store the database's metadata.

IDS on Windows Series: Installing IDS on XP

In this article, we will review the installation process of Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) v10.00, v9.40 and v9.30 on Windows XP. IDS is a very nice data server. It is certainly the best of breed database in OLTP (Online Transaction Processing), embedded systems, data-warehousing for all type of applications, including, but not limited to, Web. Its extensibility features makes it a very interesting database engine.

IDS on Windows Series: No Interactive Login for the Informix User

When you install IDS (Informix Dynamic Server) on Windows, it creates the user “Informix”. I do not have a major problem with that, I think it is even a pretty good idea. However it does bring a small annoyance: you have an Informix icon on the welcome screen. It is fairly easy to get rid of the login display.
